Driving Behavior effects on MPG.

It looks to me according to the stretch in the mileage difference  from one month to the next that mpg can drastically change due to driving behavior, even in this tiny car.   With the first tank of gas I was driving this Metro purposefully in a miserly way.

After my first wonderful 41 mpg report I forgot about all that and got back to my normal driving habits.  I love to drive.  I like to drive in a sporty manner.  Granted this is not a sports car.  I don't take a car to it's threshold, but I definitely don't drive timidly.  Yes, laugh, I know it's a Geo Metro.

I recall an episode on Top Gear where they tested two cars for mpg.  A BMW M3, not known for it's mpg, the other, a Prius.  The goal was for both cars to go around the track 10x, but the Prius had to go as fast as it could. The BMW M3 only had to follow and keep up with it.  At the end, the BMW M3 got 19 mpg.  The Prius got 17 mpg.  So, go figure. You should watch the show(see on YouTube).

I'd like to see the flip side of that test, albiet, the BMW M3 just go around the track at 60mph, not as fast as it could.  The Prius would just keep up.
